Red news / Blue news
A visual essay on the origins and utterance of Islamophobia inspired by Joris Luyendijk's book Het zijn net mensen (translated as: People like us: Misrepresenting the Middle East). For this visual essay found footage was used representing to different sides of the same news story.
In his book, Luyendijk tells about his time as correspondent for major Dutch news outlets during which he became increasingly aware of the yawning gap between what he saw on the ground and what was later reported in the media. He states: "News is only what is different from the everyday - the exception to the rule. If you are told only about the exceptions, you'll think they are the rule."
